Determine the alcohol content of wine with EasyDens & SmartRef Combo

When we talk about the alcohol content determination of finished wine, you may think about large-scale, expensive analyzing systems or time-consuming distillation. Followed by the hassle of temperature compensation charts and further calculations.

This is now a thing of the past, as we have revealed a real game changer:

The EasyDens & SmartRef combo with the Wine Meister mobile app makes it possible to directly determine the alcohol content in finished wine at home. The temperature compensation and all necessary calculations are entirely handled by Wine Meister mobile app.

How can this work?

Wine consists mainly of alcohol, extract (sugars, acids, etc…), and water. Due to the fact that alcohol and extract have different effects on the density, it is impossible to precisely determine the alcohol content in wine with density measurement only. However, with the help of the digital refractometer, SmartRef, this challenge can be solved. SmartRef measures the refractive index of a sample. By combining these two measurement techniques and corresponding calculations, the direct determination of the alcohol content of wine is possible.

Using the EasyDens & SmartRef Combo, you can determine the alcohol content of wine in just a few simple steps:

  1. Prepare ~5 mL of a wine sample and degas it.
  2. Connect EasyDens & SmartRef to the Wine Meister mobile app.
  3. Before you start the alcohol measurement make sure that both devices are clean (EasyDens Device Diagnosis), (SmartRef Zero Adjustment).
  4. Load a suitable syringe (10 mL, non-centered tip) with your degassed wine sample.
  5. First fill the sample into the sample well of SmartRef.
  6. The remaining sample is then filled in the EasyDens.
  7. Start the measurement with “Measure ABV”.

You will get the results for the alcohol content of your wine in just a few seconds. On top, the combo also determines the total extract in g/L. The results can be directly saved to the corresponding fermentation batch or stored separately.

Benefits:

+ No hassle with distillation and calculations
+ Original gravity value not needed
+ Precise measurement with an accuracy of +/- 0.5 %v/v
+ More consistency and better predictions for the subsequent lab testing
+ Less sample volume needed

All in one:

+ SmartRef determines the sugar content of grapes directly in the vineyard
+ EasyDens follows the fermentation of wine during production
The combo gives precise results for the alcohol content of finished wine

Focus on the essentials of your winemaking process - the EasyDens & SmartRef Combo takes care of the rest!
