After ordering this device, and it arriving right in the middle of pickle cucumber season, I tested the salinity functions on my pickle brine, especially since most of the other reviews focused on the beer side of things. I already had a handheld tester for comparison purposes. Unfortunately, the units of measure were different between the two devices, so math time for me, I guess. The end result had the manual tester reading 5% less sodium than the electronic tester, but both were slightly above 3.5% so the brine would be acceptable for pickles using either tester to verify the sodium.

I like this refractometer and it seems accurate. I think the price is a little steep considering there are others out there that cost less and do the same thing. I would buy again at a little lower price. 4 STARS

The refractometer has so many possible uses. An app does have to be downloaded to use this. It would be nice for the unit to have a display screen to show results but considering it has so many different measurements it is capable of, I suppose an app makes sense. The meter seems to be accurate. I have been using it to maintain a saltwater aquarium. When compared to a calibrated solution, the unit seemed to be accurate enough for my purposes. The refractometer can be used for a variety of different applications from canning veggies, jams, jellies, and brine to wine making. I plan to get bees in the near future and will probably use this when harvesting honey. Overall, this refractometer is very versatile in its uses and proved to be accurate when compared to a calibrated solution.

This product is meant to use to determine specific gravity and it does a great job. My only complaint is that it’s not different enough from the average refractometer to warrant the price.

No matter your use for this it will do the job as long as it falls within the parameters it can read. My primary use was sugar content monitoring. Sugar levels are easy to monitor on retail products, not so with home made versions, this allows the monitoring and control of that with me. For that purpose alone it becomes worth every penny for me.

I got this refractometer to take more accurate measurements to improve fermentation for brewing and wine making. I can measure the alcohol and sugar content from the beginning to the end of the fermentation process. It takes a multitude of measurements and works well with the connected smartphone app. I'm not a scientist, but as far as I can tell it takes pretty accurate measurements. It also takes measurements lightning quick and provides the results that I need immediately. I'm looking forward to using this to hopefully get involved in making and preserving honey as well.

I must say, it's been a game changer for my brewing endeavors. This device is reliable, fast, and delivers accurate results in seconds. It's not just limited to beer brewing either; I've used it to measure the specific gravity of my kombucha and it worked like a charm. The sturdy build and user-friendly interface make it a breeze to use. Great item and a great value.
